Art curricula for this trimester
st Grade: The students are learning about rhythm and pattern this trimester. These are two of the principles of design in the visual arts. We are currently looking at Mexican folk art for inspiration in creating Meso-American styled mirrors.

nd Grade: During this trimester the students are studying portraits. We have already completed a self portrait which reflects Picaso's style of cubism. The students are currently working on self portraits done in realism. Realism focuses on representing the natural world as we see it, by paying attention to proportion and color.

rd Grade: Students are learning about the many functions of public art. In small groups, students already designed and presented to the class a hypothetical public art installation that would be located at Belmar. Currently the entire third grade is working on an installation piece that teaches the community about the Western Interior Seaway.

th Grade: The students are currently learning about the different dynamics of a landscape in art. This includes comparing and contrasting the different styles in which to depict a landscape. Just finishing an abstract landscape the students will now move forward to completing a more realistic piece.

th Grade: This trimester students are studying movement and the human form. After learning about the importance of gesture drawing to capture movement from life the students have been creating sculptures from wire.

th Grade: During this trimester sixth grade is focused on color and perception in art. Currently we are working on abstract sculptures to express emotion. The colors and shapes that the students chose are deliberately linked to a feeling or emotion of their choosing.
